Fenerbahce claim Turkish title for 18th time

Fenerbahce clinched their 18th Turkish league title with a 4-3 win over Sivasspor on Sunday, moving ahead of the 17 won by arch-rivals Galatasaray.

Trabzonspor, the Istanbul club's only challengers, won 4-0 away to Karabukspor to also finish on 82 points but Fenerbahce became champions due to a superior record in matches between the two clubs this season.

Playing in the central Turkish city of Sivas, Andre Santos put Fenerbahce ahead in the sixth minute. Selcuk Sahin restored their lead near the end of the first half after Jakup Navratil had equalised.

Second-half goals from the club's Brazilian captain Alex and Joseph Yobo sealed the victory for the visitors, despite Erman Kilic pulling two goals back.

Fenerbahce retained top spot in the Super Lig as Alex scored four goals in a 6-0 hammering of 10-man Ankaragucu.

Fener's first three goals remarkably all came from the spot as Alex converted the first two in the 26th and 30th minutes, with the visitors having goalkeeper Stefan Senecky sent off after giving away the second penalty.

Mamadou Niang fired in a third penalty just after the break with Bekir Irtegun adding a fourth and Alex completing his haul.

Trabzonspor are only behind the leaders on goal difference after a 3-1 home win over Istanbul Buyuksehir.

Early goals from Pawel Brozek and Burak Yilmaz put the hosts in control with Coelho Jaja making it 3-0 before Samuel Holmen got a consolation for the visitors.

The only low point for Trabzonspor was the dismissal of Mustafa Yumlu in the final minute.

Bursaspor secured a 3-0 success at Kasimpasa.

Ibrahim Ozturk grabbed the opener and second-half efforts from Turgay Bahadir and Bekir Has completed the scoring.

The day's other game saw Gaziantepspor win 2-1 at Kayserispor.

Olcan Adin opened the scoring for the away side before Onder Turaci levelled, but Murat Ceylan grabbed the winner with six minutes to go.
